Most Rev. Mathew Kwasi Gyamfi, the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese Sunyani has challenged the youth to hold firm to the faith and be proud of it. He made this call during the Palm Sunday Mass held at the Christ the King Cathedral in Sunyani on Sunday, 14
th April, 2019. This day, is also used to celebrate the Catholic Youth all over the world marking it as World Youth Day.
In his homily, Most Rev. Mathew Gyamfi charged the youth to be great ambassadors of the faith and as much as possible avoid denying the church as Peter denied Jesus on the basis of ignorance of the faith. He further charged all gathered to join in the celebration of the Year of the Youth throughout the diocese as the focus of the church in the diocese this year and probably beyond is on the youth.
The mass was concelebrated by Very Rev. Fr. William Kyere, the Cathedral Administrator, Rev. Fr. Michael Anelka Yeboah (Associate Administrator) and Rev. Fr. George Osei Ababio (Bishop’s Secretary).
In a brief interview, the Parish Youth Chairman, Mr. Richard Kusi Ampofo, indicated that this year’s World Youth Day celebration is a special one in the diocese since the Bishop has dedicated the entire year to recognize the youth and help reshape their expectations in life and most especially their faith in the Catholic Church. He encouraged all Catholic Youth around the world to pray for each other so they do not fall prey to the negativities of the world.
